7 Common Car Maintenance Mistakes You Don’t Notice

Sometimes things can go wrong with your car, and you haven’t noticed at all. As long as your car’s running, it’s doing what it’s supposed to right? Wrong. If your car is running, that’s a good sign, but that doesn’t mean everything’s fine. Sometimes parts in your car can fail without giving you any sort of warning sign. Most drivers are guilty of ignoring flashing lights on their dash or simply ignoring problems altogether that they know are happening. There are some car problems that you should watch out for, and maintenance mistakes that you don’t always notice.

  1. Light bulbs burn out. Cops all around the United States have reported that the most common reason they pull people over isn’t for speeding, but for a burned out tail light or head light. Most people drive around for days before noticing that one of their lights has burnt out. Replacing the light bulbs on your car is one of the easiest things you can do when it comes to car maintenance in Roswell. It takes no time at all, and can save you so much money in the long run.
  2. Don’t attempt to jump start your car if you really don’t know how. Mistakes happen, but this isn’t one that you want to make. You can seriously injure yourself or another person by jump starting a car improperly. You can also seriously damage your car. You may have left a light on or forgot to take your key out of the ignition, and you need to get to work on time, but it’s not worth getting hurt or ruining your car over.
  3. Electrical problems can get much worse if you try to attempt them yourself. Would you try to fix a blown fuse in your house if you have absolutely no knowledge of electrical wires or anything electrical at all? Then why would you attempt to fix an electrical problem in your car? Let a professional fix it for you.
  4. Changing a TireDon’t assume that your tires will last longer than they actually will. You can create damage on the wheel of your car, and sometimes even the axle simply by using a tire way past it’s longevity. If you have no idea how old your tires are, then chances are it’s time for you to get a new pair!
  5. If you replace your brake pads on your own, you need to make sure that you put on enough lube. Not using enough lube can cause too much friction on the metal parts of your car near the brake pads.
  6. When changing a tire, make sure that you torque the lug nuts all the way. If you don’t put them on tight enough, it can result in a tire wobbling its way off.
  7. Never ever forget to replace fluids that you have drained. Those fluids are there for a reason. Your car needs them to function properly.
